Gender Based Violence (GBV) awareness-raising and sensitization workshop

MOHCAM in Collaboration with Media Women in Gender and Development (MEWGED) carried out a Gender Based Violence (GBV) awareness-raising and sensitization workshop. This workshop aimed at sensitizing community members on GBV prevention and response on the various forms of GBVs affecting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and host communities. Thirty (30) participants attended the workshop from nine communities of Bamenda I, II and III council areas. During the workshop, participants’ knowledge on GBV was tested and they were educated on the various referral pathways.
The workshop ended with some recommendations for the participants.

  • All GBV cases should be reported/referred for proper follow up, treatment and psychosocial support.
  • Survivors should speak up and seek help when violated.
  • Parents should endeavor to teach their children sexual education and teach them to speak up each time they feel violated.

The sensitization session was very engaging and the participants grabbed the concept of GBV and SGBV. The sensitization session ended with a note of thanks from the participants on the knowledge shared and practical moments. This will not be possible without the technical support from North West GBV Platform members and the financial support from Doctors of the World and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC
